minorblue@gmail.comCaptain Jack Harkness is an American volunteer in the Royal Air Force in 1941; he joined up even before Pearl Harbour happened to help defend England again Nazi Germany.
He is an experienced pilot (rumoured to have shot down 26 enemy planes during the Battle of Britain) who trains other, much needed pilots; he is a respected leader among his men, dutiful, straightforward, and very rational and sane - as sane as any RAF flier would have been, at that point, under constant threat to his life, and the occasional official stay-awake drugs.
On what was to be the last night of his life, he met a charming, charismatic man who called himself Captain James Harper. This man encouraged him to go after Nancy, the girl that was in love with Harkness - but that was not what he himself wanted.
During that night, at the 'Kiss The Boys Goodbye Dance' in Cardiff, Captain Jack Harkness found that what he wanted was that other Captain. To the disbelieving stares of the whole Ritz ballroom, they shared half a dance and a very passionate kiss before Captain James Harper walked off into a brightly shining light, leaving Harkness as he stood, saluting.
The next morning, Captain Jack Harkness took his men out for their last training mission; at the very end, they were attacked by two formations of Messerschmidts. Harkness shot down three of them. His men heard him whooping with glee over the radio, but then his own plane went down; he couldn't even try bailing out as the entire plane was on fire.
Much earlier on his own skewed time-travelling continuity, the man whom Harkness knew and kissed as 'Captain James Harper', who was an intergalactic conman from the 51st century, and a rogue time agent, had stolen the name of a dead serviceman and had been using it ever since as his own: Captain Jack Harkness.
I am going to play original!Jack from after what we know of his canon - his plane went down in flames, he is dead.
As for the courts martial debate that flared up in fandom (basically, real!Jack would not have been able to start on his mission the next morning as he would have been arrested for illegal homosexuality right away), I rather side with the version where people either didn't care because they needed pilots much too urgently, or his commanders decided to postpone it all until the end of the training mission, after which the entire squadron would be ready for battle - they needed all those pilots Captain Jack Harkness was training. Also, the part where the other man that Harkness had been dancing with and kissing had vanished into a shining bright light would probably have discouraged people from reporting that incident too eagerly - babbling about shining bright lights does not, as such, shine a bright light at your own mental stability in any age...
Captain Jack Harkness is from 'Torchwood', and is the property of the BBC. He appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in , from which no profit whatsoever is being made.

misslucyjane. I agree with the original mun's history and theories regarding the possible court-martial, so I'm keeping that information intact.
